Sâmia Gomes Casa Grande

I hold a medical degree from the University of São Paulo (USP-Pinheiros) and completed my residency in General Surgery at the Hospital das Clínicas of the USP School of Medicine. I completed my residency in Gastrointestinal Surgery at the Hospital das Clínicas of the USP School of Medicine. During my training as a gastrointestinal surgeon at the largest hospital in Latin America, I performed complex surgeries in this specialty, such as gastrectomies, conventional and laparoscopic rectosigmoidectomies (for colon cancer and benign conditions), gastroduodenopancreatectomies (treatment of pancreatic cancer), open and laparoscopic splenectomies, hepatectomies, and esophagectomies. I also performed a large volume of moderately complex surgeries, including surgical treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, hiatal hernia repair, laparoscopic cholecystectomies, laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair, bariatric surgeries (sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass with Roux-en-Y reconstruction), appendectomies, and surgical treatment of orifices. After completing my residency, I worked on the bariatric surgery team at Santa Cruz Hospital. I worked in the proctology outpatient clinic at Cruz Azul Hospital, providing various high-complexity outpatient consultations in the field and subsequently performing surgeries on these patients. I am currently an assistant at the University Hospital of the University of São Paulo, where I work in the emergency department, assisting students and residents in providing emergency care and performing surgeries. I teach surgical techniques specific to the specialty to future surgeons, guiding them through all surgical procedures.​ I work at the Specialty Medical Center of Nove de Julho Hospital, providing outpatient care and subsequently performing surgeries on these patients at the hospital. I am part of the support team at Oswaldo Cruz Hospital—Vergueiro unit, where I perform emergency surgeries on patients admitted through the emergency department of these institutions. I work in the emergency department at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, Perdizes unit, where I provide urgent care in my specialty. I participate annually in national and international courses and conferences to stay up-to-date and provide the best possible care for my patients.
